What would you do if your computer/tablet/phone suddenly developed issues and had to be reset or formatted?
Most of us don't consider the information and memories we keep in digital form until it's all gone.
If you use a phone or a tablet as your primary device then it's best to back your photos and other data up to a computer. If you don't have access to a PC of some sort then there are ways of backing information up to the cloud.
Cloud storage comes in many forms and a lot of them are free. Google, Microsoft and other organisations offer a certain amount of free storage to everyone on the planet. If you don't trust the cloud or don't know what it is then most people know somebody with a computer who might have some space to back up your important files.
If your desktop computer or notebook/laptop is your major data storage point, then an external data storage medium may be necessary. Most PC users have only one hard drive in their computer and if this develops an error, some or all of your data may be lost forever.
In an ideal world the safest method of data storage involves a combination of at least two different forms of backup. This means that your important data should exist in at least THREE different places. Whilst this may seem like overkill, a large amount of people lose data regularly all because they don't put their data in more than one place and when their main device dies, it's all gone.
Even if your multiple backup plan is just two flash drives, then at least your important files exist in more than one place.
A little planning can prevent a lot of heartbreak.
If you're not sure how to backup your data up regardless of how many devices you own, then please ask somebody.
Some of us have friends or family who can help, but other don't.
Regardless of your knowledge or that of people that you know, you can always ask The Tech Wizzard for an assessment (for free online) and Make sure that you're as safe as you can be.
