Did you know that there is actually a wrong way to OPEN a laptop?
A large amount of the work I do is fixing issues that are caused by people not being careful about the software side of their computer use. Which is to say that most of my clientele have software issue from either browsing the wrong websites or installing the wrong software.
But there is an alarmingly large amount of people who are bringing their laptops to me with actual physical damage that has nothing to do with being dropped or other classic forms of physical abuse.
There is very little holding a portable computer together internally ... some glue and moulded plastic being the majority of these. A few screws in crucial places make up the rest of the strength of the body and not much else.
Laptops (notebooks and netbooks included) are designed to be opened evenly. To be be more definite about this, you should either open them using one hand on each side of the lid/screen or open them from the center.
Incorrect opening can cause unnecessary wear and tear on the hinges of the hinge mounts and in some cases actually shear the hinges themselves.
Unfortunately this damage is either difficult or impossible to repair due the way the devices are manufactured and assembled. If repair is possible it is quite often very expensive due to the amount of time taken to "panel-beat" the physical body of the device back into shape.
Prevention in this case is far better then cure boys and girls.
Be nice to your tech... It's cheaper. :)
