Most of the computer issues that I've dealt with recently have not been caused by viruses, but by malware.
Malware is very sneaky and seems to be evolving much faster than viruses have been lately.
A lot of malware and adware is mostly accidentally installed by either incorrectly clicking on a link in a browser or installing software from a less than reputable source.
If you click on a link in your browser and it leads to a software installation dialog then please click cancel unless you're absolutely sure that you were intending on installing that exact piece of software. If you are trying to install a piece of software then read through every screen of the install process before clicking OK/Next just to make sure that you are actually just installing the software you want.
Unfortunately not everyone out there is completely honest and sometimes one wrong click can slow down your PC or destroy your data and cost you big money in downtime or re-installation costs.
This can be solved easily by a trained professional after it has occurred or can be prevented just by looking where you click.
As much as I can profit from ignorance, I prefer to see you all educated properly.
